Serbian representatives in Kosovo call for urgent formation of Community of Serbian Municipalities

The deputies of ten municipalities with Serbian majority population in Kosovo-Metohija today condemned the violent behaviour of special units of the Kosovo police and stressed that if the authorities in Pristina fail to fulfil their obligations stipulated by the Brussels Agreement by 20 April, they will form the Community of Serbian Municipalities on their own.

If Pristina is not ready to start working on the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities in the next three weeks, Serbian municipalities and institutions will start forming the Community on their own. We are ready to cooperate with Belgrade and Pristina on the creation of the Statute of the Community of Serbian Municipalities, as stipulated by the Brussels Agreement, it is said in the first paragraph of the statement.

Only a clear and publicly shown willingness to deal with this subject by the Pristina side will be considered as the beginning of work on the creation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities, not just declarative, and we will also not take into account the decisions of the Constitutional Court, which annulled 22 out of the 23 principles for establishing the Community.

Such an attempt to work on solving this problem would mean for us the same as no formation of the Community, and in that case we would also begin its formation in the manner envisaged by the Brussels Agreement, it is said in the conclusion of the statement.

The participants in the meeting requested that masterminds and perpetrators of the terror against citizens, representatives of the Serbian people and the media as of 26 March be prosecuted and punished as soon as possible, and that the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo and the Kosovo Police Director resign.

They also called on international representatives present in the province, first of all KFOR and EULEX, to increase their alertness and act in a preventive way in case the Serbian people and its representatives are attacked in the coming period, as this is their obligation under their mandate.
