In today’s meeting with OSCE Secretary General Jan Kubis, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica pointed to the difficult position of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija, who are deprived of basic human rights, and he stressed that it is critical to ensure conditions for the return of Serbs and other non-Albanians to the province.
Kostunica stressed that multiethnicity in Kosovo-Metohija must be preserved and recalled that the Serbian authorities have invited officials of Kosovo’s provisional institutions for talks.
Kostunica said that it is necessary to find a sustainable solution for the problems in Kosovo-Metohija, through dialogue and compromise, within the existing borders of Serbia-Montenegro, and in accordance with European and international principles of the inviolability of territorial integrity and sovereignty of all countries.
Kubis backed Serbia’s initiative to establish a dialogue with Pristina and he agreed that it is essential to achieve democratic standards in Kosovo-Metohija, most of which concern human rights and the return of displaced persons.
Kubis said that the Serbian government has made substantial considerable progress in the process of European integration and he stressed the importance of the government’s legislative activity.
