A meeting attended by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, Serbian President Boris Tadic and Deputy President of the Serbian Radical Party Tomislav Nikolic was held today to address the country’s policy relating to the problems in Kosovo-Metohija, in light of the UN Security Council session due to take place on May 29 in New York.
The leading Serbian officials agreed that it is necessary to reach a compromise through patient dialogue and that the solution must provide a kind of enlarged autonomy for the province. It is particularly important that international borders in the region remain unchanged in order to maintain and improve regional stability, they agreed.
Initiatives by the Serbian Prime Minister and the Serbian President to start talks with Kosumi and Rugova as representatives of Kosovo’s provisional institutions should continue, it was agreed at the meeting.
The return of all expelled Serbs is a crucial standard that must be accomplished in the forthcoming period, as it is a fundamental human right.
