The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija said that the local Serbian people shared the fate of their cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija and that this situation is illustrated by the fact that of the more than 350,000 Serbs who used to live in Kosovo and Metohija until 1999, more than 247,000 are still displaced, just as 50,000 Serbs who lived in Pristina before the war.
Despite this terrible ethnic cleansing, our cultural heritage still survives in difficult circumstances, Djuric noted.
Serbian Ambassador to UNESCO Darko Tanaskovic and Director of the Cultural Centre of Serbia in Paris Slavica Petrovic also addressed the guests, among whom were the ambassadors of 40 countries that have a voice in UNESCO.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija and the Zvecan municipality have prepared a setting that presents to the observer the development of culture of Kosovo and Metohija from the ancient period to the 20th century, through most modern artistic-technical methods.
In addition to the cultural tradition, the exhibition leads visitors through the political history of that area, and with the application of the latest multimedia museum techniques and the selection of the exhibits, it highlights the Christian and Serbian heritage in Kosovo and Metohija.
A comprehensive written material is also presented, authored by our experts in the field of history, art history and archaeology, as well as photographs and artefacts from various Serbian cultural institutions.
The exhibition at the Cultural Centre of Serbia in Paris will be opened to visitors until 18 September.
