Serbia makes progress in areas important for foreign investors

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic informed today newly-appointed US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott about the key activities and achievements of the Ministry she is heading, particularly in areas of importance for foreign investors.

Mihajlovic informed Scott that Serbia started issuing electronic construction permits, that it went from the 91st up to the 59th place on the World Bank’s Doing Business list and that it introduced direct flights to the United States.

She underlined that one of the priorities of the Serbian government is to build infrastructure, including realisation of projects of regional importance.

Scott praised Mihajlovic’s contribution to implementation of reforms in Serbia and the development of bilateral cooperation, and voiced expectation that successful cooperation will be continued in the future.

He said that he knows about the recent visit of air inspection authority of the United States to Nikola Tesla Airport for the sake of checking the level of fulfilment of security conditions and added that the introduction of direct flights is good news for Serbia.

Scott noted that there is room for the increase of economic activities of US companies in Serbia and underlined that attracting more investments depends to the greatest extent on the creation of a favourable investment environment.

This includes transparent and efficient procedures of issuing permits, good infrastructure and a predictable tax system, which are fields in which Serbia has already made certain progress, the US Ambassador pointed out.
