At a roundtable on national minority councils and minority self-government in the legal system of the Republic of Serbia, she stressed that the government wants to create a system that will come to life in practice, so that all reforms that are being implemented are effective.
She said that in this way the government has shown determination in addressing issues that are of importance for all national minorities, and added that the process of developing an action plan for the exercise of the rights of national minorities has started.
According to Udovicki, the government's intention is to again put into operation the Budget Fund for National Minorities, which was established in 2002.
Head of OSCE Mission in Serbia Peter Burkhard said that by establishing national councils, Serbia has created a mechanism to protect minorities and to promote their integration into Serbian society.
Burkhard said that, however, further efforts are needed to promote additional mechanisms to protect minority communities.
He said that a good indicator is the inclusion of representatives of national councils in the working group established by the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government, which will help in making the new Law on National Minority Councils.
