Dacic said that the Parliamentary Assembly represents a "collective guardian" of the values that are important in order to preserve security and cooperation in Europe and praised the contribution made by representatives of Serbia to this year's work of this assembly.
The fact that migrations are the topic of today's meeting of the expanded Bureau, and will likely be the focus of the ministerial consultations during the next two days, reflects the seriousness and scale of the problem, the Minister underlined.
During the Serbian Chairmanship of the OSCE, he added, the issue of migration has grown into a migrant crisis, which began to affect a large number of participating countries and the Organisation as a whole.
As OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, I pointed out on several occasions the need to involve the OSCE in a comprehensive and systematic way in responding to the current crisis, in cooperation with other relevant international organisations, Dacic said.
He expressed the belief that the OSCE can contribute to providing answers to questions of migrant crisis thanks to its multidimensional approach, since the crisis delves into questions of economic policy, transnational threats and human rights.
The interaction of the OSCE with other relevant international organisations should lead to concrete cooperation on the ground, including the non-governmental sector.
As a regional platform, the OSCE can, through the work of the Parliamentary Assembly, strengthen dialogue between countries of origin, transit and destination, including the Partners for Co-operation of the OSCE, especially the Mediterranean partners, the Minister said and expressed expectation that the Ministerial Council will adopt a decision on migration.
