Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the most important topic of the Craiova Group's trilateral meeting in Sofia was the refugee crisis, stressing that the three countries’ common stance on the issue would resound far better in Brussels, or any other place for that matter, when expressed jointly.
He said that the three countries agreed that they have a common position and to help each other out with joint initiatives and compliance with the European decision, but always jointly make decisions that will mean the protection of national interests.
All positions adopted jointly by Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania will be fully implemented in practice, Vucic said after meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta in Sofia.
Serbia has accepted technical aid and manpower offered by the Romanian prime minister to protect the Serbian border, said Vucic, stressing that he and the Bulgarian prime minister agree on all matters relating to reception of refugees.
A comprehensive European response to the migrant crisis must not be at the expense of our three countries, as it is not realistic to expect that they can take care of two or three million refugees, Vucic said.
Vucic said that the three countries reached an agreement that such a scenario cannot be accepted, and pointed out that Serbia is treating the refugees humanely.
Craiova Group countries – Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania – will be making their decisions concerning the refugee crisis following those reached by Germany and Austria, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister announced that Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria will appear in Brussels together tomorrow at at an emergency summit of leaders of the countries along the Balkan route on which refugees from the Middle East are moving.
Vucic said that Serbia wants a thorough institutionalisation of the Craiova Group and even closer cooperation to help strengthen stability in the three countries.
He expressed his belief that there is room for economic cooperation between the three countries, noting that friendly relations can be raised to a higher level.
The topics of the meeting, hosted by the Bulgarian Prime Minister, also included economic and political cooperation.
