Dacic said that Serbia highly appreciates the endeavours of UNMIK to create conditions for a peaceful cohabitation of people in Kosovo-Metohija, safety of all communities and respect for their human rights.
He underlined that Serbia expects that political vacuum will be overcome after the formation of the government in Pristina, which should contribute to the continuation of implementation of the agreements reached thus far in the Brussels dialogue.
We expect also that the continuation of the high-level dialogue in Brussels on 9 February will give an additional impetus to the ongoing process of normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, Dacic said.
He reiterated that Serbia approached dialogue with Pristina openly and with a sincere desire to find practical solutions that will enable normal life for all inhabitants of Kosovo-Metohija, as part of a wider process of European integration.
I want to emphasise that, in further dialogue with Pristina, the key issues for Serbia remain the return of internally displaced persons, the position of the Serbian Orthodox Church and property issues, Dacic underlined.
He reiterated that Serbia condemns every kind of desecration of religious sites, of any religion, adding that it is necessary to introduce additional measures of protection of Serbian cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo- Metohija.
The current situation in Kosovo-Metohija is a proof that the conditions have still not been met, in line with Resolution 1244, for a full transfer of competencies to interim institutions of self-government in the province.
Dacic stated that finding a lasting and sustainable solution for Kosovo-Metohija is a national priority of Serbia, and reiterated that this solution can be attained only through negotiations and dialogue with interim institutions of self-government in Pristina, with the respect for legitimate interests of the Albanian, Serbian and other population in Kosovo-Metohija, based on the Security Council Resolution 1244.
