After a meeting with representatives of the OSCE, the UNHCR, the United Nations Office in Serbia, the Office of the Personal Representative of the EU High Representative, the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric said that it is time for concrete actions regarding the return of internally displaced persons to Kosovo.
He said that representatives of all organisations agree that the return to Kosovo-Metohija has so far been at a symbolic level and that it is necessary to take additional steps.
All of these institutions will take the initiative to form a joint working group that will meet regularly, define goals jointly and monitor the achievement of concrete results, Djuric added.
According to Djuric, only 10% of the 250,000 displaced persons returned to Kosovo, which is a very small number.
UNHCR Representative for Serbia Eduardo Arboleda said that the initiative for the establishment of a working group is excellent, noting that it is necessary that all relevant stakeholders get involved in this process, primarily because the return to Kosovo-Metohija requires financial resources, political will and resolving security issues.
He said that he hopes that the involvement of all relevant stakeholders will create a plan that would allow internally displaced persons to choose between returning to Kosovo and staying at locations where they are displaced.
