During the talks, Djuric stated that Serbia will readily receive the opening of negotiations with the EU on Chapter 35, which is expected to take place by the end of this year.
Djuric highlighted the importance of election of legitimate representatives of the Serbian people in Pristina institutions, given that there is no other way for the interests of Serbs to be adequately represented and protected.
According to him, the priorities are also the formation of the Association of Serbian municipalities, the return of internally displaced persons and the resumption of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina under EU mediation.
He pointed out that the Serbian government is satisfied with the turnout of the Serbian population in the recent elections and that now the institutions in Pristina should respond in an appropriate manner to such decision of the Serbian people.
McFarlane agreed with Djuric’s assessment and pointed out that the recent establishment of the Serbian government, the constitution of the parliament in Pristina and the upcoming personnel changes in EU institutions create a favourable political environment, which should be used for further progress in dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
