The traffic is currently suspended in both directions, and the motorway E 75 Horgos-Subotica-Novi Sad has also been blocked, near Feketic and Backa Topola.
Around 700 people were evacuated from a line of about 200 vehicles and placed in safe accommodation. Another 40 vehicles are still snowbound on this motorway.
On this road, on the 57th kilometre, members of the Fire and Rescue Department of the Ministry of the Interior evacuated three women and five children and put them on the premises of the Red Cross in Backa Topola.
Eight foreign nations were also evacuated.
All capacities of the fire and rescue units and the Gendarmerie have been activated, who take part together with members of the Serbian Army and road companies in pulling out vehicles from snowdrifts and the evacuation of passengers, it is added in the statement.
