Minister for Family Care and Demography in a caretaker capacity Jelena Žarić Kovačević said that this year’s Children’s Week will focus on every child’s right to protection from all forms of violence, as well as the importance of prevention, early identification of risks and creating an environment in which children feel safe, heard and respected.
Žarić Kovačević stressed that special attention will be paid to children’s experiences from their own perspective, as well as their questions, suggestions and views on what they need in order to grow up safely.
She pointed to the national importance of this issue and the event, recalling that the Ministry, with the support of UNICEF, developed a proposal for a new Programme for the Prevention of and Protection of Children from Violence.
The main goal of this year’s event is to combat violence against children, with particular emphasis on prevention, timely identification of violence, response and risk prevention, while creating a positive, safe and supportive environment for children to grow up in.
The idea is to use a rich and engaging educational and informative programme to further emphasise the importance of preventing all forms of violence, as well as adults’ responsibility to ensure children’s safety, understanding and support.
