Judiciary plays major role in process of European integration

The Ministry of Justice and Public Administration announced that a Ministry delegation last night had a meeting with Director General for Enlargement Christian Danielson to discuss future activities necessary for the opening of Chapter 23 as part of the negotiation process with the EU.
The statement said that the Director General for Enlargement said that the official commencement of accession negotiations with the EU is a historic day for Serbia, and that Chapter 23 is fundamental in the negotiating process.
Danielson said that the judiciary plays a major role in the process of European integration, adding that special attention must be given to the fight against corruption and organised crime as well as to the protection of civil rights.
Deputy Minister of Justice and Public Administration and Head of the negotiating team for Chapter 23 Cedomir Backovic pointed out that the Ministry, together with other relevant judicial institutions for negotiating Chapter 23, dedicates special attention to implementation of the strategies for judicial reform and the fight against corruption.
Backovic pointed out that efficient implementation of the strategies through their action plans will give concrete results in practice.
They also discussed reforms of the public administration and possible amendments to the Criminal Code, the statement added.
