The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today that Serbia is planning to open three new embassies this year – in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Ghana and five diplomatic offices – in Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Vietnam and Cambodia.
A statement by the Ministry says that so far Serbia has not had diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia and adds that the opening of an embassy in Riad will contribute to the development of mutual political and economic relations, intensification of dialogue and the building of mutual trust.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Mrkic pointed out that Serbia’s goal is to have a developed diplomatic network in as many countries as possible, which will serve the purpose of a successful diplomatic representation of our country and strengthening of the domestic economy.
Mrkic confirmed that the possibility of opening joint embassies with the countries of the region is being examined.
So far, the agreement is most likely to be reached with Macedonia and Montenegro.
In the meantime, Serbia continues with its plan of expanding the diplomatic and consular network and will offer all those interested to join it.
The Minister noted that this would reduce costs and would increase the presence and visibility of the countries of the region in many parts of the world, and would also facilitate their joint participation.
