The statement said that Serbia’s presidency over the UN General Assembly was dedicated to the preparation of a new global development strategy of the UN, which should come into force in 2015.
There was also a large number of thematic meetings and debates on important issues of today.
From March to September 2013, there were 18 such meetings, attended by officials of UN member states and a number of prominent figures from the academic, business, cultural and religious circles in the world.
The debates were devoted to the role of international criminal justice in the reconciliation process, global economic governance, peaceful settlement of disputes in Africa, sustainable development and climate change, culture in the context of sustainable development and entrepreneurship.
The first meeting of the General Assembly on the rule of law was held and the Arms Trade Treaty was adopted.
Chairing the 67th session of the UN General Assembly contributed to the international affirmation of Serbia, improving relations with the UN and upgrading capacity for dealing with major global issues, the statement reads.
