The Serbian government highly appreciates General Perisic's decision to turn himself in to The Hague Tribunal and thinks that such a decision is moral and in the interest of the state. The Serbian government will provide all necessary guarantees for Perisic's pre-trial release and will offer necessary assistance to his family. General Perisic will travel to The Hague on Monday, March 7.
General Perisic confirmed in a written statement that he decided to surrender to the international tribunal in The Hague of his own free will and that he was not influenced by anyone.
"I received an indictment of The Hague Tribunal. As in all in crucial moments, of my own free will and not being influenced by anyone, I decided to surrender to the international tribunal in The Hague, of course, after all necessary preparations.
“Crimes do not have nationality and therefore I think that everyone who committed them must be punished. That is why I do not fear to stand before any court, and especially before The Hague Tribunal because that is the only way to defend my honour, the reputation of the army and the dignity of the people, and to help uncover the truth by telling what I know", it is said in General Perisic's statement for the public.
