The law, adopted in December last year by the parliament at the initiative of the Ministry of Diaspora, is more liberal than the previous one and has a simpler procedure and shorter deadlines for receiving Serbian citizenship, the announcement states.
The Law on Citizenship provides for favourable conditions for refugees, those born on the territory of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Serbian emigrants, foreigners married to Serbian citizens, as well as foreigners who have made special contributions to Serbia.
Requests for receiving Serbian citizenship can be submitted to all municipal secretariats of internal affairs, according to place of residence or to diplomatic-consular branch offices of Serbia-Montenegro abroad.
