Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with Macedonian Prime Minister Vlado Buckovski to discuss cooperation between the two countries, the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, and the delineation of the border.
Kostunica pointed out that human rights of Serbs and other non-Albanians are severely violated and that not one of the defined democracy standards have been achieved in the province, adding that these issues were discussed at the latest UN Security Council session and stressing that an independent Kosovo-Metohija is absolutely unacceptable to Belgrade.
Buckovski said that without security and the respect of human rights in Kosovo-Metohija, there can be no talk that any of the standards has been achieved.
Kostunica suggested that the delineation of the border between Serbia-Montenegro and Macedonia should be carried out in line with the 2001 agreement between the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and Macedonia, which envisions that this issue is to be resolved on the level of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and Macedonia and with respect of Resolution 1244.
Buckovski announced that Macedonia’s new bill on religious communities will resolve the issue of the freedom of religion and the registration of religious communities. Kostunica said that the state should enable the freedom of religion and leave the churches to discuss church issues.
The two officials agreed that the relationship between the two countries is very good and they stressed the need to improve economic ties and establish better communication between businesspeople of Serbia-Montenegro and Macedonia.
