They will meet with representatives of the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia to consider the development of key aspects of the rule of law in our country, to prepare an analysis of the current situation and to begin preparation for an analytical review of the legislation.
The statement said that the experts of the European Commission will first meet with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration to discuss reforms in the justice sector, with reference to the independence and efficiency of the system, the criminal justice system and penal policy.
Especially important topic will be the fight against corruption, i.e., the policies to prevent and combat corruption, but also the presentation of specific cases in order to assess the actual efficiency of the existing system.
The fight against organised crime and other serious forms of crime, including the fight against drug trafficking and weapons will also be a major theme of the meeting, which will the mission will discuss with representatives of the Ministry of the Interior.
Special attention will be paid to the state of economic and social rights and anti-discrimination policies and enforcement of the legal framework to protect people with disabilities, vulnerable groups and the LGBT community.
The theme will also be the measures to be taken in order to prevent torture and ill-treatment and degrading treatment, in accordance with the United Nations Convention signed by Serbia, the statement added.
