Serbia to establish diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the government at its session yesterday adopted a decision to establish diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia on a residential basis.
This decision was adopted at the proposal of Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Mrkic, as Saudi Arabia is the only Arab country with which Serbia has never had diplomatic relations.
The establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of the Serbian embassy in Riyadh will give momentum to the development of political and economic ties, the intensification of political dialogue and building of mutual trust. Saudi Arabia is without doubt one of the most influential leaders of the Arab and Islamic world and is very active in global and regional international organisations.
The establishment of diplomatic relations on a residential basis will certainly open up opportunities for economic cooperation, bearing in mind the very positive experience that Serbia has with other Arab countries, reads the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
