In a session, which analysed the current work of the government, it was stated that the government has improved dialogue with the provisional institutions of government in Pristina in order to achieve a just solution that will ensure survival of the Serbs in the province and a lasting peace in the region.
Restoring transparent dialogue on Kosovo-Metohija back in the institutional framework, willingness to reach a stable solution and implement agreements in accordance with state and national interests, increased Serbia's international credibility and accelerated its path towards the EU.
It was pointed out that Serbia is the EU’s trusted partner in reforms and improvement of relations as well as holder of new values in the region.
Serbia expects to begin negotiations on joining the EU soon. Serbia has never been closer to the EU and the government will continue to implement fundamental reforms and fulfill international obligations.
At the meeting it was estimated that the Serbian government has stabilised public finances, stopped the decline in economic activity and is rapidly creating conditions for increased foreign investments.
About €2 billion in foreign investment are expected to arrive in Serbia this year. There was a slight increase in industrial production while the rise in unemployment was stopped. It is expected that the budget deficit be halved this year and that export increase, which will result in the creation of new jobs.
The Serbian government has launched a strong fight against crime and corruption. Coordination was established between security services and government bodies, strong teams were formed and the work of the police and the independent judiciary was encouraged.
Criminal charges were filed against 77 persons for inflicting damage in excess of RSD 35 billion, while the total gain obtained from crime stands at RSD 17.5 billion.
We have launched a wide-scale investigation into the possible abuse in the process of 24 privatisations, including Sartid, Luka Beograd, Nuba, Nibens, Azotara as well as privatisation of agricultural land in public ownership in the territory of AP Vojvodina.
An investigation into abuses in Agrobanka has also been launched and there is an ongoing trial against 33 persons.
Financial fraud in companies Habit and Galenika is also being investigated.
At its meeting today, the government expressed willingness to fight against crime and corruption consistently, systematically, in accordance with the law, and concluded that no one will be protected in this struggle.
In extremely severe internal and international conditions, the government stands united regarding all major issues because Serbia will not and cannot afford to miss a historic opportunity to join the EU, to defend its state and national interests and to ensure prosperity for all of its citizens.
At today's session, the government also adopted a number of bills in the field of energy and construction.
