Minister of Regional Development and Local Self-Government Verica Kalanovic today talked with a delegation of the mayors of Germany’s Baden-Wurttemberg province about the possibilities for establishing a partnership and cooperation between Serbian and German towns and municipalities.
The delegation of 24 mayors was led by Chairman of the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union of Bundestag Gunther Krichbaum and the experiences on the functioning of local self-governments were exchanged at the meeting.
The Minister evaluated the relationship between Serbia and Germany as true friendship and partnership and underlined that today's visit deepens possibilities for concretisation of cooperation and making partnership between towns of Serbia and Baden-Wurttemberg.
She noted that Serbian has a special form of institutional cooperation with the province of Baden-Wuerttemberg with a special form of institutional cooperation through the Joint Committee and that Krichbaum was one of the initiators of the formation of such cooperation.
She added that the German province of Bavaria is one more province with which Serbia has such a form of institutionalised cooperation.
We have to make better use of this framework in the near future in order to create the foundation for a stronger and more concrete cooperation between the cities and municipalities, the Minister said, adding that the delegation of mayors from Germany invited our municipalities to visit Germany.
The visit of the delegation of mayors from Baden-Wurttemberg was organised by the Serbian-German society, it is added in the statement.
