The Ministry says in a statement that over 30 representatives from 53 European states are attending this gathering where the main points of interest will be strategies and action plans regarding public health at national and regional levels.
Health 2020 – the new European framework policy for health and well-being – will be a topic of special concern and will be discussed by health ministers because integrated action must focus on risk factors and socio-economic health determinants, as well as on boosting the health system to make it capable of responding to the growing number of disease-stricken people in the world.
Investment in health is beneficial not only for individuals, but for the entire society, which is why we need integrated action of various social stakeholders. Health 2020 focuses precisely on this issue, namely the importance of the engagement of the “entire government” and “entire society” in the resolution of challenges the health system is faced with.
The session will deal with issues such as the European action plan for boosting the capacity and services in the public health sector, the new strategy and action plan for healthy ageing in Europe 2012–2020 and a regional WHO office for European national strategies.
On the fringes of the 62nd Regional Committee session, Djukic-Dejanovic will meet with Cypriot Minister of Health Stavros Malas, WHO Director General Margaret Chan and WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsana Jakab.
The Serbian delegation will also include State Secretary of Health Vladimir Djukic, the statement adds.
