Minister of Youth and Sport Alisa Maric went to Turkey to visit Serbian chess players, participants of the Chess Olympiad, held from 27 August to 10 September in Istanbul.
The Ministry of Youth and Sport stated that Maric, who is a chess grandmaster, will stay in Istanbul at the invitation of the European Chess Union and the Serbian Chess Federation.
The aim of the visit is to support the Serbian national team, and she will also have a series of bilateral meetings with senior officials of the World Chess Federation.
As a special guest the Minister of Youth and Sport will address the delegates of the Congress of the European Chess Union.
The Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, which is held every two years, gathered 158 countries participating and over 1500 competitors. The Serbian national team will compete in the men's and women's competition, the statement added.
