Minister of Justice and Public Administration Nikola Selakovic underlined late yesterday in the talks with Head of Mission of the Council of Europe in Belgrade Antje Rothemund that the establishment of the rule of law, fight against organised crime and corruption are the vital goals that the Serbian government has set for itself.
The participants in the meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening citizens’ trust in institutions.
Selakovic and Rothemund agreed that the current situation in the judiciary is not satisfactory and that during the reform of the judiciary there were no clear criteria regarding general re-election of judges and public prosecutors.
The Minister explained that the decision of the Constitutional Court on re-employment of unelected judges and public prosecutors will be respected, adding that in the future the Ministry will work more on strengthening independent institutions such as the High Judicial Council and the State Prosecutorial Council.
