UN Secretary-General congratulates Dacic on taking office

Belgrade, 28 August 2012

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon congratulated Prime Minister Ivica Dacic on taking office of prime minister of Serbia.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and our enriching discussions during my official visit to Serbia on 23 and 24 July 2012.

Allow me to congratulate you officially on your new position as Prime Minister of Serbia which you assumed shortly after my departure. I appreciate your strong commitment to cooperating with the United Nations, which you demonstrated throughout your tenure as Minister of the Interior and First Deputy Prime Minister. I am looking forward to broadening this cooperation in your new function.

I welcome your statement that you would like to solve outstanding issues between Belgrade and Pristina as soon as possible. The United Nations remains your partner under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244. I was also encouraged by your commitment to the accession path of Serbia to the European Union, and wish you success in your related reform efforts”, reads the letter of congratulations by the UN Secretary-General.
