Addressing Serbia’s numerous and very influential diaspora in the United States, which is one of the most organised Serbian communities in the world, Sreckovic pointed out that the key issue this year for Serbia is to attract investors because only economically strong Serbia can be the guarantor of state security and national interests.
It is estimated that between 600,000 and one million of Serbian citizens reside in the United States.
At a meeting held at the Serbian Embassy in Washington, the Minister called on Serbian businessmen from the United States to invest in Serbia.
The Minister also met with representatives of the church council of the first Serbian Orthodox Church in Washington, St. Luke, which has started to be built this year. So far $1 million has been raised for the construction and on 21 April the closing donor’s night will be held.
Sreckovic wraps up his visit to Washington today, where he attended the Prayer Breakfast at the invitation of the U.S. administration, reads a statement by the Ministry of Religion and Diaspora.
