The statement adds that the Directorate General of Democracy, as one of the supreme Council of Europe bodies, brings together all political issues of regional politics through a Congress of local and regional administrations, education, youth and sport.
For the first time in the 63 years long history of the Council of Europe someone from the Western Balkans will occupy such a position.
Samardzic-Markovic said that this is a great honour for her, as well as a huge recognition for the entire Serbia.
This is also a recognition of the results achieved by the Ministry of Youth and Sport together with all its partners, the Minister underlined.
She stressed that while she is in the new position, she will do her best to help Serbia make the EU path as successfully as possible.
I will also be able to continue my engagement in decentralisation and local politics. It is my intention to return to Serbia after this mandate and with the knowledge, experience and contacts acquired in the new position, to help our country, Samardzic-Markovic observed.
Because of the preparations for her new duties, the Minister will submit her resignation to the position of Minister of Youth and Sport to the Prime Minister and parliament today, the statement adds.
