The Ministry of Religion and the Diaspora today stated that it will sponsor Serbian language courses in Fier, Albania, just as it has done before.
This will be the fourth year that the Ministry has encouraged Serbian language teaching in Albania, in the towns of Skadar and Fier, where the Serbian people recently gained national minority status.
Minister of Religion and the Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic said that regular and long-term investments in the political, cultural and economic awakening of the Serbian people in Albania are extremely important and they stimulate the remaining Serbs in Albania to stay there.
In 1934 the only remaining Serbian school in Skadar was abolished by Albanian king Zog.
Efforts of the Serbian Ministry of Religion and the Diaspora and other state organs in the period ahead will be aimed at finding a lasting solution to this problem, namely to build a facility and open a Serbian school there, with the support of both states.
