Jeremic on visit to Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana

Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic was on a bilateral visit to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, and on this occasion he expressed gratitude for the support of these countries in Serbia’s diplomatic struggle for the preservation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In Trinidad and Tobago Jeremic met with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communications Roodal Moonilal and in Guyana with Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and Acting Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community Lolita Applewhaite.
The talks focused on the improvement of overall bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of agriculture and education, and liberalisation of the visa regime with these states. Special attention was paid to the deepening of cooperation in the fight against organised crime, where striking results were shown in the cooperation of Serbia and Latin American countries.
Expressing gratitude for the support of these states to Serbia’s diplomatic struggle to preserve sovereignty and territorial identity, Jeremic underlined the fact that a great majority of countries in the Caribbean did not recognise Kosovo’s independence.
I notified my collocutors about the situation in Kosovo and asked them to remain faithful to their principled stance not to recognise separatists, despite a new wave of pressure they are being exposed to, Jeremic stressed.
The Minister observed that they also discussed ways to raise the fight against organised crime, primarily against drug trafficking, to the level which Serbia has established with the Untied States and larger South American countries.
It is vital that we do not have “black holes” in the geographical sense, in terms of our efforts to prevent drug trafficking, he observed.
After the visit to Guyana, Jeremic will leave for Barbados, where in Bridgetown he will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxine McClean.
