Dulic to attend session of UN Commission on Sustainable Development

Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic will participate in the 19th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 19) on 11-13 May in New York.
A statement by the Ministry says that this year's session will deal with issues that need to be implemented in the period 2010-2011 and these are transportation, waste and chemicals management, mining and ten-year framework of sustainable production and consumption.
Dulic will take part in the talks with representatives of governments and international organisations within the UN system on practical measures and progress related to these topics.
He will also participate in ministerial meetings dealing with sustainable production and consumption, development of a sustainable transport system and waste and chemicals management.
The session will look at the progress made by states and regions in order to create proper policies in the given areas during the year.
Also, the session will examine the main negotiating document that will provide consensus on some of the key decisions on waste and chemicals management, the development of sustainable transport, reduction of negative effects of mining on environment quality and introduction of sustainable production and consumption trends for the sake of encouraging energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
The results of the negotiations and decisions that will be made at the session will be considered in the context of preparations for the upcoming world summit on sustainable development that will be held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012, the statement adds.
