Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic talked today with Belgrade Archbishop Stanislav Hocevar about returning registry books to the Roman Catholic Church which have been in the state’s ownership since World War Two.
The Ministry states that Markovic acquainted Serbian Patriarch Irinej about the government’s conclusion on the manner of return of registry books.
The government conclusion indicates its commitment to resolve the remaining issues and thus continue improving the relationship between the state and churches and religious communities, the Minister explained.
Archbishop Hocevar thanked the Minister and the Serbian government for their readiness to resolve this issue.
With this decision, the government has once again demonstrated in practice that it respects the interests of churches and religious communities and also showed its readiness to engage and extend a helping hand in order to resolve various issues, Hocevar noted.
