The Ministry stated that the occasion for these meetings was an initiative by Minister of Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic-Markovic to amend the Council of Europe Convention on Spectator Violence and Misbehaviour at Sports Events, which the Minister presented at a meeting of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers on 13 October 2010 in Strasbourg.
Three topics were dominant during the visit to Strasbourg, namely the struggle against violence in sport, rigged matches and illegal betting, and fight against doping in sport. I was most interested in violence in sport and changes to the Convention on Spectator Violence and Misbehaviour at Sports Events, the Minister observed.
She added that they agreed to organise a meeting with Deputy Secretary General Maud de Boer Buquicchio and UEFA President Michel Platini some time soon, to discuss amendments to the Convention.
The Minister and her delegation will visit the French Anti-Doping Agency and the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education (INSEP), while for the last day of the visit a meeting with French Minister of Sport Chantal Jouanno has been scheduled.
