Bilateral military cooperation between Serbia, France at a high level

The Ministry of Defence announced that as part of the visit of Serbian President Boris Tadic to France, Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac met with his French counterpart Gerard Longuet.
The statement says that the two ministers concluded that the bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and France is at a high level and that there is still space for its further improvement.
Sutanovac presented security sector reforms that have so far been carried out in Serbia, and pointed to the process of professionalisation of the Serbian Army, reaching the standards of modern European armies, fulfilling the obligations arising from the Partnership for Peace programme, as well as joining the collective defence and security policy of the EU.
The Minister said that Serbia is expected to conclude two agreements with the EU on security soon so that soldiers and police officers from Serbia could join civilian and military missions of the EU.
Sutanovac and the French Defence Minister also discussed the inclusion of Serbian Army officers in the French military contingents in the EU mission in Atalanta, as well as the involvement of Serbian medical teams in missions of EUTM in Somalia and Uganda.
They also agreed that in addition to involvement in multinational operations in the UN, Serbian Army members will be involved as equal partners in the civilian and military mission of the EU.
Sutanovac and Longuet also discussed military and economic and military-technical cooperation, and particularly emphasised the need to enhance technical cooperation and make joint access to third markets.
They also spoke about promotion in military health sector and agreed to work together to promote this area.
The two ministers signed a bilateral agreement on defence cooperation, which envisages promotion of cooperation between the two ministries in the field of education, military and economic and military-technical cooperation and exchange of officers and professional staff.
This agreement will enable officers of the Serbian Army to go to the most prestigious military schools in France.
At the end of the meeting Sutanovac invited the French Defence Minister to visit Serbia, the statement added.
