Encouraging youth mobility, activism

Minister of Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic-Markovic stressed today that the Serbia Youth Leadership Programme (SYLP) endorses the Ministry’s two strategic goals, and these are youth mobility and activism.
Addressing the closing conference, held at the Belgrade Youth Centre, Samardzic-Markovic noted that young people have to travel to gain new knowledge and bring new, good trends to Serbia.
It is necessary for young people to be actively involved in the society in which they live and which they will inherit one day, in order to tailor it to meet their needs and realise their ideas, the Minister stressed.
The gathering was also addressed by State Secretary of Education and Science Tinde Kovac-Cerovic and US Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick.
The meeting was greeted by a group of 20 young Americans visiting Serbia from 20 March to 2 April, as part of SYLP programme.
A photographic exhibition was opened at the Belgrade Youth Centre, displaying photos from youth campaigns, which programme participants implemented in eight Serbian municipalities.
Photos which Serbian high school students took during their stay in the United States last year were also presented.
SYLP was carried out by the Civil Initiatives together with the World Learning organisation from Washington.
The programme is financed by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is implemented with the support of the US embassy in Belgrade, reads the statement by the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
