Plan for accelerated candidate status for EU membership

The EU Integration Office announced that the government at its yesterday's meeting adopted the Report on the implementation of the action plan to meet the priorities of the European Commission's annual report for 2010, which will help Serbia obtain the status of candidate for EU membership more quickly.

According to the first report, approximately 70% of planned activities have been fulfilled.

The biggest move was made by adopting regulations that should eliminate some shortcomings in the process of judicial reform, as well as regulations that further regulate the construction sector.

Also, conditions were made for improved performance of independent institutions and regulatory bodies.

Of 23 recommendations contained in the action plan, whose deadline for implementation was 31 March 2011, six have been fully met, while 11 have been met partially and six have not been met.

A Protocol on cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and the Ministry of Trade and Services and the Customs Administration on market surveillance was signed.

The first report was made before the end of March so that the European Commission could be informed about it at its upcoming meeting of the Committee for implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, which will be held on 22 March in Brussels.
