Global Network of Women ICT Decision Makers presented

As part of the 55th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, a Global Network of Women ICT Decision Makers was presented, at the initiative of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society.

Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matic said following the presentation that information and communication technologies (ICT) are an excellent opportunity for women worldwide, including those in Serbia, to create successful careers.

However, in order to take advantage of this opportunity, women must deal with a number of prejudices and other obstacles on their way to success in this sector, Matic observed.

This network can help women by connecting them and enabling them to share experience and thus attain the positions they desire, she added.

Matic also presented www.witnet.org internet portal which will enable its members to communicate and share information, regardless of the country they are from.

Speaking at the presentation of the Network "Women in ICT" Deputy UN Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Michelle Bachelet and Minister for Women, Children and Family of Mali Maiga Sina Damba.

The role of this network is to help women achieve a successful career in the ICT industry, strengthen the principles of gender equality in this area and promote ICT among women around the world.

A global network of women decision makers in the ICT area was established after the adoption of Resolution 70 of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Mexico in October 2010, at the initiative of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society.

The project of the global network of women decision makers in information and communication technologies Women in ICT will be presented to the local public in Belgrade on 7 March, according to a statement of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society.
