Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica received today Political Director of British Foreign and Commonwealth Office John Sawers. Kostunica pointed out the difficult position of the Serb population in Kosovo-Metohija, who are deprived of basic human rights, and said that granting additional institutional guarantees to Serbs would encourage displaced persons to return.

Kostunica reiterated that it is necessary for Belgrade to be directly included in the talks on decentralisation.
Sawers said that the election of Ramush Haradinai as Kosovo Prime Minister is a result of a democratic process. However, if the Hague tribunal issues an indictment against Haradinai, Great Britain will ask him to surrender to the tribunal.
Kostunica emphasised the importance of preservation of the state union and respect of the Constitutional Charter, which mandates the holding of direct elections for the parliament of Serbia-Montenegro.
