State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Dragan Markovic said today in the talks with a delegation of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment that this Ministry is guided by the principles of general international law in its work, including the prohibition of torture.
Markovic underlined on this occasion that the visit of this delegation will help identify and apply all necessary measures and joint activities towards eliminating all factors that cause or enable torture.
After examining many years of work of this ministry, it was concluded that there is no marked use of torture by the police, but that only individual cases of exceeding power limits were registered, Markovic underlined.
Second Vice-President of the Committee Haritini Dipla welcomed the Serbian ministry’s readiness to maintain good cooperation and act in line with recommendations of the European Committee, it is added in the statement by the ministry.
