Initiative for abolishing UK visas to Serbian citizens

The Ministry for Diaspora stated today that it supports the initiative of the Serbian City Club for abolishment of visas of the United Kingdom to citizens of Serbia, which will also contribute to improvement of political, economic and cultural ties of the two countries.
The Serbian emigrants launched the initiative for abolishment of UK visas one year after visas for the Schengen area were abolished for Serbian citizens.
Minister for Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic said that members of the Serbian City Club recently presented the Serbian community in the House of Commons of the UK parliament and encouraged its members to request from MPs to abolish visas to citizens of Serbia.
The Minister pointed out that this would largely facilitate and intensify contacts with members of the diaspora in the UK.
Over 100,000 Serbs live in the UK and they are gathered around four centres – the Serbian City Club, Serbian Council of Great Britain, Serbian Society and the Serbian Orthodox Church in London.
The core of the Serbian diaspora in Great Britain are descendants of the emigration from the period after World War II and during the 1990’s.
