The Ministry stated that during a meeting between Minister Mrkonjic and owner of East Point Company Zoran Drakulic, at which they discussed ways to improve transport services for large Serbian exporters, they agreed that these companies are an indicator of success of the Serbian economy.
They also discussed the strategic importance of the Yugoslav River Shipping company, stressing that the company must first undergo privatisation.
River transport is the cheapest and safest way of continental transport of bulk goods, as well as environmentally friendly and uses up the least energy per tonne of transported goods.
This helps to reduce transport expenses, which affects the price of goods, making it more competitive at the international market, and this is the major task of companies in Serbia, the statement adds.
