Fulfilling recommendations from European Commission’s progress report

The European Integration Office announced today that the government adopted an Action plan on recommendations from European Commission’s 2010 progress report to accelerate the receiving of a candidate status for EU membership.
The measures contained in the plan relate to ten areas important for acquiring candidate status. Consistent implementation of this plan along with providing quality answers to the questionnaire would provide additional argumentation for a positive opinion of the European Commission regarding Serbia’s request for membership.
These areas include: cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), regional cooperation, return of property and security of property rights, monitoring obligations arising from the liberalisation of visa regime, continuation of the fight against corruption, ownership over the mandates of deputies, the functioning of regulatory bodies, prevention of discrimination and, in particular, the position Roma minorities, judicial reform, economic reform (restructuring, unemployment, cases of annulment of the contract on privatization, privatisation of state enterprises, excessive paperwork that affect the business environment, competition policy, infrastructure bottlenecks).
The Serbian government is committed to meeting the recommendations relating to the functioning of the executive power.
Recommendations from the domain of two other branches of government – legislative and judicial, as well as those relating to independent regulatory bodies are given at the end of the table of the plan. They are meant for relevant institutions to facilitate the improvement of the situation in their respective fields.
The European Integration Office will submit to the Serbian government regular reports on the fulfillment of the Action plan, in March, June and September 2011.
