The directors of police of the two countries, Milorad Veljovic and Oliver Grbic, signed a Protocol on establishing a joint contact service at the Bajakovo–Batrovci border crossing, in the presence of the two ministers.
Dacic and Karamarko stated that mutual police cooperation contributes to security of citizens, not only in Serbia and Croatia, but in the whole region.
The interior ministers of Serbia and Croatia pointed out that this is just one step in efforts to establish a joint centre for combating organised crime and corruption.
Dacic said that the border crossing Batrovci–Bajakovo is very important, because it takes more than 40 of the state border crossings, and pointed out that the main task of the joint contact services of Serbia and Croatia, which should begin to work for a month, will be better control borders and combating illegal crossings and smuggling.
He pointed out that the common interest of the police of the two countries is fight against organised crime and terrorism, and protection of property and ensuring safety of citizens.
The Ministries of the Interior of Serbia and Croatia have launched a series of joint initiatives, including the establishment of a centre for combating organised crime and terrorism in Belgrade, which has become interesting for colleagues from the region, recalled Dacic.
He stated that next year will see continuation of joint trainings, exercises and case assessment of threats from organised crime.
Karamarko very positively assessed the cooperation between the two ministries and two state police in the past two years and stressed that the concrete forms of cooperation are aimed at the benefit and welfare of the citizens of Serbia and Croatia.
The protocol, signed today, represents a formal framework for institutional cooperation between the two countries’ police, as well as an introduction to establishing a joint centre for combating organised crime and terrorism in Belgrade, he added.
Veljovic and Grbic stressed that the contact service will contribute to an even more successful fight against all forms of crime.
Veljovic said that next year the police cooperation between the two countries must be even stronger in the fight against organised crime and said that police cooperation between the two countries was ranked very high at the headquarters of Interpol in Lyon.
Grbic expressed his expectations that the contact service on the Croatian side will formally start functioning in about a month.
