Stressing that he is a friend of Serbia, Wexler said that his membership in the caucus was meant to help the people of Serbia. According to him, the Serbian caucus plays an important role in improving relations between the two countries.
Kostunica thanked the US Congressman for his involvement in the caucus, adding that the preservation of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro is in the interest of both the region and Europe. Underscoring that Serbia-Montenegro is pursuing a European Union integration path, the Prime Minister said that he expects a feasibility study for the state union's stabilisation and association with the EU to be completed next spring.
Kostunica also called for providing additional institutional guarantees for Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija, adding that they have been deprived of their basic human rights. Additional guarantees, according to Kostunica, would help protect human rights in the province and ensure the return of displaced persons.
The meeting also touched on the political situation in the country and cooperation with international institutions.
The two officials also called for improving economic relations between Serbia-Montenegro and the US.
US Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Michael Polt and Serbia-Montenegrin Ambassador to the US Ivan Vujacic also attended the meeting.
