Serbia to improve cooperation with Microsoft

Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matic stated today at the Government Leaders Forum in London that by participating in this gathering, Serbia has shown that it keeps up with European and international trends.

The Ministry says in a statement that last night Matic met with Microsoft Executive Director Steve Ballmer and discussed ways to improve cooperation between Microsoft and Serbia.
Ballmer fully endorsed the Digital School Project, voicing Microsoft’s readiness to open a competence centre in Serbia as a place where countries of the region can share their experience in IT education.
He showed particular interest in increasing the competitiveness of SMEs in Serbia and the possibilities for them to become suppliers on the global market.
During the meeting they also discussed the Pan-European Conference of leaders from European countries, to be held in Belgrade, during which the use of information and communications technology in education and public administration will be contemplated.
Matic is the first Serbian representative to have met with Microsoft’s Executive Director.
The Minister held a presentation on competitiveness and presented the Digital Agenda Serbia and the Digital School Project.
She also spoke about improving competitiveness through the application of information and communications technology and the Digital School Project, implemented by her Ministry. During the project, schoolchildren will be using this technology from the beginning of their education regardless of the development level of the surroundings in which they live.
The topic of this year’s forum is “Building a Smarter, Sustainable and Inclusive Europe – EU 2020 in Action”, which will seek ways for Europeans to increase competitiveness in order to build a sustainable European future.
The European Leader Forum gathers government representatives for the purpose of sharing experience and discussing laws and problems in their implementation.
The goal of the forum is to look into the role of information and communications technology in this sector, to improve cooperation among states and encourage solutions which will positively affect European governments and their mutual cooperation.
