Serbia applies for organisation of 2015 European Athletic Championship

Minister of Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic-Markovic spoke today with President of the European Athletic Association (EAA) Hansjorg Wirtz and Vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sergei Bubka about the promotion of athletics, participation of children and development of sport in schools.

A statement by the Ministry of Youth and Sport reads that during the meeting the Minister officially presented Serbia’s candidacy for organisation of the 2015 European Indoor Athletic Championship.

Virtz said that the IAAF sees in the Serbian Athletic Association a partner that takes part in the realisation of European competitions, but also in the organisation of the most important meetings, such as the European Athletics Convention 2010.

Bubka praised the fact that Serbia supports sports because this represents investment in the health of the entire nation.

The meeting was also attended by Director General of the European Athletics Office Christian Milz, as well as President and Secretary General of the Serbian Athletic Association Veselin Jevrosimovic and Slobodan Brankovic respectively, and assistant ministers of youth and sport Slavisa Zlatanovic and Dragan Atanasov, reads the statement by the Ministry.
