Matic at ITU Plenipotentiary Conference

Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society Jasna Matic will attend the 18th Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), taking place in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Ministry says in a statement that a Serbian delegation, led by Minister Matic, will present the Digital Agenda Serbia at the conference, including broadband policy approaches, electronic administration and the analogue to digital TV signal transition process.
The Plenipotentiary Conference is the supreme body of the ITU, responsible for the allocation of the radio spectrum throughout the world and the development and implementation of strategies aimed at reducing the digital gap in order to meet the growing needs imposed by contemporary life.
The Ministry’s initiative to establish a global network of women in leading positions in the information and communication technology sector will also be presented at the conference.
A series of bilateral meetings with top-ranking ITU officials has been scheduled during the conference, which will concern further improvement of cooperation between Serbia and the ITU.
A five-member leadership will be elected at the conference to govern the ITU for the next four years. Participants will also appoint a board for regulating radio communication and decide by voting which countries will take part in the work of the ITU Council.
Matic will also meet with heads of member countries attending the election session. Around 2,000 participants from 160 countries will be attending the conference, the statement concludes.
