Health should be recognised in all national, global policies

Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic pointed today at the session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for Europe held in Moscow to the importance of partner cooperation between the member states and the organisation.

Milosavljevic is heading a Serbian delegation at the 60th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe in Moscow, which will last until 16 September.

At the plenary session, the Minister spoke about the importance of cooperation between the member states and the WHO, noting that it should be a two-way and partnership cooperation.

It is necessary that health should be recognised and present in all national and global policies, he underlined and added that chronic non-infectious diseases, together with new environmental impacts on health, keep being priorities among the main challenges for European health systems.

In her capacity as a member of the WHO Executive Board, Milosavljevic spoke about fields such as partnership, the Millennium Development Goals, the global Code of Practice for hiring health workers, HIV/AIDS control, infants and children nutrition, financing and coordination and the problem of false medicines. In a separate session, Milosavljevic took part in the analysis of achievements and plans in the joint activities of the Health Network of the countries of south-eastern Europe.

The Serbian delegation also includes Assistant Minister of Health Ivana Misic and representatives of the Serbian Embassy in Russia Milan Milosevic.

The session is being chaired by Russian Minister of Health Tatjana Golikova and is being attended by 20 ministers and over 300 representatives of 53 member states of the Regional Committee, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan, as well as representatives of numerous international organisations.

The conference is also being attended by representatives of the World Bank, UNICEF, the European Investment Bank, the Council of Europe, the UN Economic Commission for Europe and non-governmental organisations, reads a statement by the Ministry of Health.
