Nine die in school bus crash near Prijepolje

Serbia-Montenegrin military divers and officers of the Serbian Gendarmerie have recovered the bodies of eight passengers form a bus that plunged into the river Lim between the Serbia-Montenegrin towns of Bijelo Polje and Prijepolje late on Sunday. The rescue teams are still searching for three missing passengers.

According to the latest statement from the Serbian Ministry of Interior, nine passengers died, while 38 were unhurt in the accident. Three are still missing.
Of the 38 uninjured persons, 21 were hospitalised in Prijepolje, while the remaining 17 were accommodated in the Durmitor hotel after they received medical attention in Bijelo Polje. Their condition is stable, according to doctors.
Hospitalised in the Prijepolje hospital are Monika Varamezova, Lyuboslava Sismanova, Boryana Kozuharova, Mariana Georgieva, Radoslav Marcevski, Stefan Adamov, Marta Georgieva, Viktoriya Asenova, Taner Ibrahimov, Kristina Simeonova, Tsvetomira Todorova, Pepa Varbanska, Gergana Savova, Todor Todorov, Yordanka Valova, Valeri Bozinov, Nadya Ivanova, Mariya Kolceva, Nikolinka Apostolova, Marin Mincev, and Dimitar Kerelov.
Accommodated in the Durmitor hotel in Bijelo Polje are Violeta Peeva-Habib, Nataliya Savova, Atanas Kozuharov, Teodora Kozuharova, Blaga Conova, Vera Blazeva, Lidiya Hristakeva-Barosova, Stoyana Hristakeva, Cvetanka Stoykova, Reni Georgieva, Gabriela Mateva, Kristina Teodosieva, Petya Dimitrova, Vladimir Valchev, Tsenka Popova, Albena Ivanova, and Iliva Izmirliev.
According to initial reports, the accident happened after a tyre burst causing the driver to lose control over the bus. Immediately after the vehicle plunged into the river, the Prijepolje police, firemen, military divers from Montenegro, and a number of citizens of the town of Brodarevo ran to the assistance of the victims, reads the statement.
A unit of divers from the Serbian Gendarmerie later joined the rescue effort today, the statement added.
Top officials of the Bulgarian Embassy to Belgrade are at the site of the accident.
